v.2023 Rhône IL DUE
Tasting notes
Deep purple-red. Concentrated blueberry, peony, and pie crust on the nose, deepening into licorice, star anise, and cassis. The palate is richly textured — chicory and luxardo cherry at the core — with a fine velvet texture anchoring a roasted, savory finish.
Poured at cellar temperature, this wine will shift through a range of aromas as it warms in the glass. Pair with braised meats or a warm salad of bitter greens and shaved fennel.
Production notes
‘Il Due’ — ‘the two’ — celebrates the classic Rhône pairing of Grenache and Syrah. In 2016 we acquired a neighboring property directly upslope from our Estate: lean, sandy soils on a frost-free hillside thriving with avocado and citrus, signaling the kind of site that could push the limits of our cool Edna Valley climate. Ripening Grenache and Syrah reliably here demanded the right combination of aspect,
low-vigor soils, and committed sustainable farming — but the results have spoken for themselves. Since our first release from the 2019 vintage, Il Due has consistently wowed our Insider members and is becoming a point of reference for cool-climate Grenache-based wines on the Central Coast
